Not inspired but still pretty good
In 1997, I first saw Steve Malkmus in a small venue. The were awesome. I had the feeling that something was not right, but energy was strong, song selection was very good, and quality of the music was good. Steve Malkmus has the reputation of being a brat that is hated by the other band members and it played out on stage. Drove 2 hours to see this show. You had Malkmus on stage right doing his dork act and the rest of the band acting as a band and doing their thing. Saw 03 Greedo since and he was good but always missing something. The sound all came together well but it was distracting show - like two separate acts. Overall was worth the 2 hour drive but came away feeling like they were all doing it for a paycheck.
